In Alberta, a Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) is required for trailers under the following conditions:

  1. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW): Trailers with a GVW of 11,794 kg or more must undergo a CVIP inspection.
  2. Type of Trailer: Certain types of trailers, such as those used for commercial purposes (e.g., utility trailers, equipment trailers), are subject to CVIP inspections.
  3. Frequency: Typically, CVIP inspections are required annually. However, trailers used for passenger transport may need inspections more frequently, such as semi-annually1.

It’s important to ensure your trailer is inspected regularly to maintain safety and compliance with regulations.
